As I am sure many out there already know that since fall 2010, the city of Peterborough has been leading an initiative to develop their first Municipal Cultural plan.
As stated on the cities website;
“The Municipal Cultural Plan (MCP) will develop a vision for Peterborough, highlighting economic prosperity, social progress, and quality of life. It will focus on culture’s role in creating a livable, sustainable community with a vibrant downtown and healthy neighbourhoods. Through extensive community engagement, the Plan aims to generate a shared cultural vision in Peterborough and provide a set of guiding principles and actions that ensures Peterborough reaches its greatest potential as a culturally vibrant, creative city.
The Project Team is developing the first draft of the Municipal Cultural Plan. It will be presented at a public meeting in the fall of 2011. Members of the community will have an opportunity to comment on the draft. The exact date, time, and location of this meeting will be announced soon.”
The latest opportunity for public input has been released in the form of four online surveys, one for businesses, organizations, individuals as well as events and facilities. I would encourage any individual, business or organization that identifies as part of Peterborough’s cultural community to complete the surveys. This process does not work without your involvement. Fill out as many of the surveys that apply. Links are attached below. They will be available until August 15th, 2011.
I am sure many that are already an integral part of Peterborough’s cultural environment have their doubts about whether the city can get this right. That should not deter you from taking the opportunity to voice your opinions through the channels which they have made available, rather it should drive you to do so. There is a chance here for investment to make what we all care about more sustainable and we need to exploit it. Check out the information, fill in the surveys and keep up on the progress of the release of the draft plan.
