FutureTense is ARTSPACE’s second biennial Juried Member’s Exhibition. In celebration of the debut of our Media Lab, we are thrilled to present an exhibition of work from the membership. The exhibition represents a diversity of work utilizing various technologies from the obsolete to the cutting edge, from the functional to the dysfunctional. With approaches ranging from audio installation to digital animation, drawing, painting, video, and assemblage, the exhibition presents a broad portrayal of contemporary art practice.
Each of the works included in FutureTense explores an aspect of the expressive potential inherent within technology; whether that expressive potential is used to spark dialogue about technology’s ever-expanding role in our culture or to explore the personal and get to the heart of the human condition. Regardless of whether the technology is old or new; they are all, in their own way commenting on the narrative, organic, and fragmented qualities of our now ubiquitous technology-laden reality.
